Pork chops with apple compote – delicious!
While the Echo Valley Ranch is prime farmland most suited to the raising of grass-fed beef, pork is still a popular request among our customers. In order to meet demand, we raise pigs.
Pig production is better suited for scrub-land rather than high quality grassland due to pigs fondness for rooting. Being as our farm does not have any scrub-land, we have moved away from keeping pigs totally outside, to only letting them outside for short periods of time ( sort of like walking your dog! ) This means they get exercise, have fresh greenery to eat, but are moved back in the yard when they tire of eating and exploring and start rooting up the pasture.
We make sure they have lots of space, and that they have hay or straw to root around in so they can still indulge in their natural instincts. This has been the best compromise we have been able to come up with to make pork production work on our farm, and the results speak for themselves.
Our pigs are happy and healthy, and our pork is contaminant-free and absolutely delicious. Enjoy!
